Infamy, infamy, they've all got it infamy!

It's true, after doing some more to the game, it was time to take a break from Tads and do a few more pics, it was then, I found, I had no textures, all of my saved work is there, but it's useless.
A fresh install of windows 10 (As previously mentioned) and Poser seems to have lost all the textures to my characters, the textures folder is there, I made sure it would be before the install, the contents, however have vanished *POOF* gone. They were there, I put them there, they are not hidden, they are not locked, they are gone.
So now I have a choice..
(A) Do I start them from scratch and go all the way back?
(B) Do I add to them, with character's that look similar?
            OR
(C) Do I say "Fuck of Poser. " and start afresh in Daz? (Which, I have to say, I am loving at the moment. )
The game will not be released without graphics, it can't be, (not strictly true) it was built around graphics. (also, not strictly true).
I'm edging towards C.. I reckon I could get them done in a week or so (I have three weeks off) and, as a release date has never been given, who would ever know right?

It appears I have answered my own question, (putting it down on paper really does work!)
Have a good one.

  1. I went for fuck Windows 10 personally and reinstalled 7 :D

But you are right, you did answer your own question there, If you can get them done in a week it looks like a good option.

  2. Lol Rabbie, I've nearly done that a few times too, but for now, nothing is being reinstalled until this is done.

  3. I'm not sure to have understood (i haven't used poser), with the upgrade you have lost all the textures and you haven't a backup or the problem is with windows 10 and you don't want to reinstall windows 7?
In any case I approve your dedication, maybe you can think this as a sign of fate (even if a bit naughty) to say "use daz".

    1. Well Daz and Poser were once the same family, so I just stuck with it, but following Daz's progress since 2012. I always swore that one day I would actually give Daz my full attention, expecting nothing more than to slate it as a poor, distant cousin.
Well, the time has come and, I have to say, it's easier to use, there is more content readily available and it's more user friendly. At this time I cannot see me returning to Poser, certainly not for scene building anyway.

    2. Hey Doc, sorry to hear that W10 screwed you around. I am going to stay with W7 until they drag it off me!

Very interested in your comments about Poser and Daz. I am about to start on some AIF graphics and, without having used either Poser or Daz yet, I am struggling to decide which is the better. The content I have been considering at Renderosity and Renderotica seem to favour Poser over Daz, particularly for clothing textures and for "naughty" poses. The Daz website sure has a lot of content too but it seems overpriced and of limited use for my AIF. I will be interested to read how your own work progresses.

Another thought - IRay and V7 look great but are they necessary for most AIF work? Ariane B is doing great things with V4 on Poser.

      Cheers.

    3. I have always used Poser, and I loved it, the work space is better than Daz and it always seemed, more than a little, superior, but, it has huge limitations in posing characters, I always seemed to be fighting with it, maybe that's what I loved, the whole "You won't get one over on me. " thing.
I have always seen Daz as a far lesser program, it did not jump out of the screen at me, it was more than a little clunky and, I have to say, I was happy where I was.
I have given Daz 10 Day's of my time now, I have created over 50 pics, some IRay, some not, and your probably right, most AIF would probably not use IRay.
Content does not need to be expensive, you can use Renderosity's content in either Program, although it does suit Poser better.
There are also many great websites, Like Sharecg.com, thousands of artists sharing thier goods for free. Digital creations does a lot of free stuff, and many others are out there, maybe someone will read this and share a few more with us.
My advice would be, as I have now done. Start the same scene in both programs and then see which of these you lean towards. That what I did in the end. 50 pics later in Daz and Poser is still sitting at the basic scene stage, so, for me at least, it was a no brainer..
ArianeB does look good, I have to say.
Good luck to you, which ever path you follow, I am sure it will be the right one for you and, at the end of the day, that's all that really matters.

    4. Thanks Doc for the good information and advice; I appreciate it. I had naively hoped that one program would jump out as being the obvious choice but I guess the reality is that they both have strengths and weaknesses and I need to try both, at least for a while, to find where I am more comfortable and productive.

I am currently ploughing through the writing and programming of text and plot into Adrift and have set myself the target of at least getting that out for Beta testing before I start my graphics 'adventures'. I must say that I am a bit sick of programming Adrift and the idea of mucking around with graphics is very alluring, but if I do get distracted that way I may never get the basic text finished!

      Cheers
